The Menard County Sheriff's Office is asking residents to not respond to a new scam in which callers claim to be from the department and have a warrant for the arrest of the person being called for missing jury duty.
The scammers are demanding immediate payment of $500 to clear the warrant and not report it.
One person has already fallen victim to the scam, and the department is asking persons not to respond or give out any personal or banking information.
The MCSO said that the department will never call a person to advise them of a warrant or other business and ask for money to clear a warrant.
