
The San Angelo Police Department is warning residents of a new credit card skimming scam at several convenience stores in surrounding communtities.
According to SAPD there has been card skimming incidents recently affecting surrounding areas.
SAPD reports that there haven’t been any reports of it happening in town yet but wanted to make the citizens aware of this type of scam.
The SAPD listed the following ways to avoid being scammed:
• Use the tap method when paying with your card whenever possible to avoid skimmers and shimmers.
• Check your bank accounts daily to quickly identify and report fraudulent activity.
• Set up bank alerts for withdrawals, balance changes, or suspicious activity.
• If a card reader looks loose, damaged, or suspicious, notify store staff immediately.
