No. 8 Rams Football Rolls Past Western New Mexico

Eight different Rams found the end zone as No. 6 Angelo State cruised past Western New Mexico, 56-27, on Saturday during Family Day at 1st Community Credit Union Field at LeGrand Stadium.

With the win, the Rams improve to 4-0 on the season and extend their Lone Star Conference winning streak to 14 games, dating back to the 2023 campaign.

Western New Mexico struck first, capitalizing on an early passing play to take a quick lead. But the Rams responded swiftly, as Kaeden Smith connected with Corey Sandolph for a 54-yard touchdown to tie the game at 7-7.

Midway through the second quarter, Angelo State grabbed its first lead when Smith found Hunter Wallis for a 36-yard score. After the Mustangs pulled even once more, the Rams surged ahead for good. Jayden Jones powered into the end zone from a yard out, and Shamareon McKinnon followed up with a 51-yard pick-six to make it 28-14 and extend Angelo State's streak of games with an interception to 19 straight.

The Rams opened the second half with a methodical scoring drive capped by a 13-yard touchdown pass from Smith to Donny Bishop. Cameron Dischler added a 10-yard touchdown run to give ASU a 42-20 lead entering the fourth quarter. Dischler finished as the Rams leading rusher with 74 yards

Smith continued to spread the ball around, finding Trevor Winn for his first career touchdown on the opening drive of the fourth quarter. After a Mustang score, Israel Kaloso and Ashton Dickens entered the game to make their 2025 debuts. Smith later tossed his fifth and final touchdown pass of the day, hitting Alan Dobbins to cap the scoring.
